In July 2017, two of the world’s most respected tech wizards Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg gave completely different opinions on dangers of artificial intelligence on human being. Mark views AI as an optimistic future whereas contrasting is the view of Elon, who has negative vision on this buzzing technology.
Whatever may be the result of their debate, we should know the powerful impact artificial intelligence and its capabilities.
Listed below are six areas where artificial intelligence has already started showing it’s impact:
Reviews:
Consumers evaluate and trust brands/companies based on many factors and one of them is the online reviews. Most consumers today use services such as Google Maps, Yelp, Trip Advisor, and others to check reviews or feedback given by the customers before making their decision on using the services. Although companies can insist their existing customers to post reviews. But do you know that artificial intelligence is capable of writing reviews you want either for restaurant, travel portals, hotels and others.
Researchers from University of Chicago have worked on a neural network that could generate falsified reviews.
So don’t get surprised to see following indistinguishable reviews actually made by a machine but look real human –
- My family and I are big fans of this place
- Food is great. Highly recommended
- Staff is super-friendly
Write Book:
Literature is one of the most beautiful art human has ever produced. It attracts and is loved by people across the globe. But what if robot starts writing the book instead of a human? And that is what software engineer Zackarey Thoutt (Zack) is trying to achieve.
He has decided to develop an AI to write the sixth book in the series of Game of Thrones. He has trained neural network to write next chapter in the GoT series. In fact five chapters have already been written. You can have a look his project on GitHub.
Sports video editing:
Editing a sports video is a mechanical process, very monotonous in reality. But the problem has been resolved by IBM through their cognitive platform – Watson. The company has made its platform creative. And the platform analyzes events such as excitement of public, movement of players, and their facial expressions during a tennis match and then creates video out of the best moments. And all of these processes are more accurate and fast compared to what a human editor does. In future IBM’s cognitive platform will transcribe audio tracks into captions, identify sensitive content, and make suggestions in a much more natural way to a user.
Hope to see how Watson enters in other sports.
Music Composition:
American singer, writer, producer, singer – Taryn Southern has decided to create an entire album using artificial intelligence software to compose her songs after playing the songs in this way and enjoying the result. Name of the album is “I AM AI”, your album will be the first to be produced entirely by AI. Listen to the soundtrack composed by AI available on Youtube.
So get ready to see more & more AI composed music, streaming on your devices as this technology further evolves.
Lie Detection:
Redmond, Washington based company SilverLogic Labs specializing in facial and emotional recognition is developing a feature that can figure out whether or not someone is lying. And this detection happens just by looking at the facial image and analyzing the characteristics that indicate emotional state of the person. The company has actually created an algorithm that analyzes a person’s minutest movements, using a camera, and determines what that person is currently feeling. This surely will make you remember the movie Minority Report.
Crime department should definitely take advantage of this.
Create Fashion Items:
The world’s most admired retailer – Amazon has created a machine which will help in searching the next trend in the fashion world. Basically an algorithm is used to learn about a specific style. And based on the results, the software can create fashion items from scratch.
The work uses a tool called Generative Adversarial Network, which consists of neural networks that operate together to make an analysis, based on some raw data. Looking at samples behind a style, the resource manages to apply this to an existing item.
So there won’t be surprise when machine will challenge leading fashion brands like Gucci, Christian Dior, Dolce Gabbana, GAP, and others.
Can see AI’s impact. People may lose jobs because of Automation; AI will replace humans in many fields.
Every technology has it’s own pros and cons. But the power of AI is certainly going to reduce workforce especially in the areas where manual work is done. E.g. Chatbots have already started replacing manual chat done by humans. Take for e.g. HDFC bank which deployed human sized robot called “Intelligent Robotic Assistant (IRA)” inside their branch to assist customers. This is the first humanoid in the domestic banking space in India.
